Necessity of the curricula reform of the forestry degrees in Brazil

Abstract

As regards the outstanding need to adapt the curricula to the forest formation, according to the official basic curriculum guidelines of 2006, it is necessary to design a real easing in the formation of forest engineers that will work in the coming decades. Considering the constant changes in the demands of current consumer societies in the country, it will be necessary to know thoroughly new concepts and postures of forestry engineering, that may define future professional performance to face foreseeable new and constant challenges. On these foundations, the profile of the forestry engineer for his professional performance in the coming decades, should be soaked with new technical, scientific, social and political information that will enable to have an agile thought and ability to adapt to the constant and deep changes in the consumption of forestry products that will happen. In these precepts, the work identifies possible issues of professional activity, which will certainly come, and in the light of these positionings recommendations are made to include, in the current curricula, disciplines, themes and actions that allow to accompany the development of these scenarios.
